In this chapter Ender comes into contact with Bonzo and six more people from Salamander Army. He then gets into a fight with just Bonzo and wins. Ender hurts Bonzo very badly to the point where he gets knocks unconscious and almost dies. After he leaves with Dink and gets back to his bedroom he starts to cry and states "I didn't want to hurt him!" This shows that within Ender is really a good person. He knows the type of person he wants to be and it isn't a bad one. It reflects off of him that he will never hurt someone unless they threaten or try to him. In my opinion he is only trying to defend himself.
Choice 1- Manipulation
In chapter eleven the teachers manipulate Ender to make him the best commander they ever had. They seem to have no boundaries on how they are treating and how everything they are doing is changing specifically for Ender. "Anderson handed Ender a slip of paper. "Now," he said.- BONZO MADRID, SALAMANDER ARMY, 1200." This quote is an example of how the teachers manipulate Ender. They let him know about this battle ten minutes before it started and while his boys were still showering. They put him against one of the best armies with ten minutes to prepare and he still ended up winning because of his interesting and new tactics. They also only gave him three weeks to work with his army before sending them to their first battle. They will push him as far as they need to, to make him the best tool they can have. I find this is not fair because he is only a little kid. That is how they are using manipulation to make him the best tool they have. Your perspective can change everything. It has the ability to change a whole situation because you were only thinking one way and not out of the box. Thinking in different perspectives can help you in so many ways. If I am having trouble with something, I always think abut it from different angles and if that doesn't work then I will ask for other peoples thoughts on the situation. An example could be, if I am not understanding a topic in math and I just can't grasp the concept, then I will look at it in a different way. Most of the time this will help but if it doesn't, I can always ask a friend how to do the problem and how they think of solving it. If I didn't look at the math concept in a different way I probably never would have understood it. That is my view on perspectives.
I OthWhen Peter is trying to convince Valentine to help him with his plans to take over the world, he opens up and shows some humility by crying in front of her. Valentine says to herself, "He's manipulating me... but that doesn't mean he isn't sincere." Being manipulated by others is an important theme throughout the book. Is trying to manipulate someone always a bad thing? Is there anyone who can honestly say they've never tried to manipulate someone before? Could there ever be a time when it's okay to try and manipulate someone, or when its okay to allow yourself to be manipulated by someone else?
The definition of manipulating is this, to control or influence cleverly, unfairly, or unscrupulously. Most of the time manipulation is use for the worse. When you are manipulating someone you are most likely trying to get something that will benefit you not the person you are manipulating. Other times manipulating can be for the better good for someone else or many other people. But, in my opinion it is usually used as something bad. I would say that I have never met someone who has not tried to manipulate someone before. Unless you are a baby or a toddler then I do not think that is possible. Wether someone tried to manipulate you for the better or for worse it is still manipulation. Some people may not even know that they are or have manipulated someone in the past but, they most likely have. The only time I would say yes to manipulating someone or allowing yourself to be manipulated is when it is for the better good of a person or a situation. Other than that I would not say that manipulation is something that should be allowed or tolerated with anyone. 1. Chapter nine is a very interesting chapter. It first starts off with Graff getting mad about Peter showing up in Ender's video game. He does not understand why and needs to find out why the computer would a picture of Peter into Ender's fairyland. So, he ends up going back down to earth to find out why the computer would do such a thing. Colonel Graff goes to Valentines new school in Greensboro, the new place there family moved to. He tries to get answers out of Valentine about Peter and about their life with Ender before he went up to battle school. But Valentine doesn't budge so, Colonel Graff makes Valentine write a letter to Ender saying that he is nothing like Peter and that he was a good person and not a bad one. But, Ender knows that Valentine wouldn't write like that and he finds out that his teachers made Valentine write it and that it wasn't a letter from the heart. Ender still knows that Valentine loved him but, he knew that she did not write with love in this letter. The next major event that occurred in chapter nine was with Valentine and Peter. The main point of the chapter was about Peter and Valentine and how they made fake identities as adults to express how they feel about the world. Valentine and Peter become much closer and spend much more time together as siblings. Valentine's secret identity is Demosthenes and Peter's is Locke. Demosthenes was an old greek statesman and orator of ancient Athens and Locke was an english philosopher and physician. They chose these people so they could take over the world before the world wars start to break out since there is not going to be another war against the Bugger's. This is the only way to do it in Peter's mind. Who/what has succeeded in planting a seed of doubt in Ender's mind? How/why is it able to help Ender acquire wisdom?
In my opinion, Dink is the person that placed a seed of doubt in Ender's mind. He is the one who tells Ender all about the truth of the buggers. Dink says that the buggers are not going to come back for war and that they finished them in the last one. He says that instead of them fighting the buggers, the world is going to start fighting each other, country against country. This makes Ender doubt because it makes him think that he left Valentine and his home for nothing and that he is not going to be helping save the earth from the buggers. This enables Ender wisdom because it made him think twice about everything people said and told him to do. So, the more in depth he thought about something, the faster he will become a better soldier and person. Explain the relevance of the following statement:
The Enemy's gate is down. The relevance of this statement is that in order to win in the battle room you must put five helmets to the gate and walk through in order to win the battle. So, if the gate is down it must mean that the battle is not over because no one has walked through the gate to win the battle yet. Or it could also mean that the other team has won the battle because the other gate is not open. Another way to look at this statement is in a metaphorical way. This could mean that the way Ender orients himself can effect where the gate is. What is up is now down and what is down is now up. So this means that since they are in no gravity zone everything changes as well as the enemies gates. That is what this statement means to me. |
