Dor/Father Time:
Dor, Allie, and Nim are all children that grew up together running and playing. Allie and Dor have crushes on each other that soon turned into a love that they never would have guessed could have occurred. They grew up to marry each other and have three children. Dor created counting my counting his fingers and creating a sound for each count, which are now called numbers. Allie encourages Dor to keep on counting and to never stop. We figure out that Dor ends up in a cave alone with a long beard and no way out, all he has are voices which are complaining about time. He then grows up in that cave to be Father Time.
Sarah Lemon:
Sarah starts off the novel by complaining about her losing time to get ready. She lives with her mother since her parents got a divorce. They both want him to admit that he caused their family to break apart. Sarah seems to be going out with a boy and will not tell her mother. She picks out the perfect outfit and does her hair and make-up to perfection.
Victor:
Victor on the hand does not have much time to live. He has been diagnosed with a failing kidney and a tumor. These two things are causing him to die and he wants to stop it. Him and his wife Grace are not going to let Victor die without a fight. They are doing everything they can to preserve his life after the doctor told them he does not have much time on this earth to live.
"And on this early page of man's story, one different child can change the world. Which is why God is watching him."
I would say that this quote is referring to Dor. Dor is a different, but special, child because of his counting and instruments that he makes. I think that Dor's invention changed the world and God is watching over him because of that.
